Wide Receiver Mohamed Sanu officially announced his retirement on Friday, capping off a memorable 10-year career in the NFL.
In 2012, the Bengals drafted Sanu as a third-round pick out of Rutgers and wore stripes for four seasons. He quickly established himself as the team’s number two receiver opposite A.J. Green, who was coming off a strong rookie season.
Sanu will be remembered as a part of the Atlanta Falcons. He signed with the team in 2016 and became a good complement to Julio Jones, who also retired this offseason.
Sanu produced his best numbers in 2018 with the Falcons, generating 66 catches for 838 yards and four touchdowns. Sanu was also a great passer, which is something multiple teams used him for. He threw for 233 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions on 8 attempts in his NFL career.
Mohamed played for a handful of teams in his pro career, many of which were short stints that lasted less than two years. He played for the Bengals, (2012-2015) Falcons, (2016-2019) Patriots, (2019) 49ers, (2020) Lions, (2021) and the Dolphins. (2022)
While Mohamed Sanu was in Cincinnati, he registered 152 receptions, 1,793 yards, and 11 touchdowns. As for passing, Sanu went 6/6 for 228 yards, and three touchdowns while also boasting a perfect 158.3 passer rating.
Sanu took to social media to announce that his 10-year playing career had come to an end:
