Bengals second year edge rusher Shemar Stewart avoided a serious injury at practice on Wednesday.
The Bengals had just kicked off training camp only for the 22-year-old to get carted off the practice field two plays into 11-on-11 drills.
Here’s the video of Stewart’s injury:
It’s unclear how long Stewart will be out but according to Head Coach Zac Taylor he plans on Stewart missing several weeks, which in this case is the best case scenario.
Fortunately he avoided any ligament damage which potentially could’ve ended his season before it started.
Last season Shemar got hurt in a week two win against the Jaguars that sidelined him for five weeks. Two weeks later Shemar was dealing with a knee injury that excluded him from a week nine matchup against the Bears and he was ultimately placed on IR and missed another seven weeks.
Stewart made his return in week 16 and played the teams final three games. In those final games he recorded five tackles, one pass deflection, and finally captured his first NFL career sack against the Cardinals.
With the Bengals revised defensive front the Bengals planned on having Shemar Stewart in that mix from the jump. There is still a slight chance that he suits up for week one but for now Cincinnati is going to have to wait and hope Shemar can live up to the hype he received this offseason when he returns.
